I have recently taken on board a 308 win, having already a 303 Brit , can i reload the 308 with 303 heads ??
I realise there is a slight diffrence of .003" , will it make a diffrence, & has anyone tried?

I'd suggest against it. I'm a big believer in only using the exact right components.

With most 303 bullets being either 311 or 312 in diameter, when shot in the 308 it will create dangerous high pressure because it will be pushing a larger than bore sized slug. Stick with .308 diameter bullets for your 308.
I have seen that mistake at the gun range before, it blew the primer out and the shooter got hot gas in the face, luckily he was wearing shooting glasses. The bolt had to be pounded open, he sent the rifle in to have it checked for stress cracks. Play safe and shoot .308 diameter bullets in your 308......

While I wouldn't recommend it, it has been done.  I watched a video a while back where a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant makes his snipers carry a Lee Classic Loader and hammer-style bullet puller, and has them disassemble 7.62X54R ammo and load it into 7.62X51 NATO brass.   He does this just to demonstrate that in a SHTF scenario where they can't get ammo resupply, they can still shoot their rifles.  It seems to me it would be simpler to just use the 'other guy's' stuff - rifle AND ammo.

I think he's playing with fire personally, but he's gotten away with it for a while.

And FWIW, I tried to get E.R. Shaw (barrel makers) to thread a .308 bore barrel for a Mosin Nagant and chamber it for 7.62X54R, and they wouldn't do it, due to liability concerns.  I was planning to shoot .308" diameter bullets through it exclusively.  Granted, the Finns did a bunch of them this way with perfect success, but I still don't recommend doing it.

The Russian 762x54 head checks out at 310 not 308.  Hornady do a FMJ 174 grain head in 3105, thats the bullet weight we use when reloading.

I assume you must have a .303 with quite a tight bore i.e. .311". I've heard of people using .308 in a .303 but they have to be shot a lower velocity. You are only running in the grooves at a .0025" depth, but if you have a rifle with the 5 and 5 rifling, the .308 bullets should spin fine. After all the newer Marlin 30-30's with micro-groove have a bore diameters of .304", with a groove depth of .002, there are, of course, a few more grooves, with the micro-grooving.
