OK, so I mocked up a Picatinny rail mount to fit over the bolt of a #1.

Not too hard, very similar to my #4 mount.

So the real question becomes, is there truly a market for them?

These would NOT be "No drill - No tap".

They would be rigid and allow the fitting of moderns scopes.

I've located a possible source for the raw extrusions, waiting to hear back on my price.

I would still have to machine and anodize them.

Not on the unit pictured, but I suppose it could.

I'm looking into making my own rail stock, which gives me more options in exactly what I build.

Today I contacted the company making the rail stock I have used in the past, looking to see what sort of price break I can get buying direct and in the white.

Since they are machined from blanks, not extruded, I expect they will still be expensive enough that I will want to make my own.

If so, or if it could be done as so, having just the over-the-barrel portion available (i.e. without the part that goes back over the action to the charger bridge) would be a great option for a D&T, dead rugged scout rail mount. Perhaps even lower profile than the prototype you have done up, so it's quite low to the bore line and well below the line of sight with the irons.

If so, I'd be quite interested in one of those, and I think one done similarly for the #1s and Ishapores would not be a bad thing either.

Keep us posted, because those look very good and very useful.

D&T? Sorry I'm not always aware of all the acronyms in current use.

Any rail needs to mount on the front of the receiver on one end, it's the only place with enough width for stability.

If I'm understanding you properly, you are looking for long eye relief mount?

What you are asking CAN be done, how many others are looking for the same?

OK guys, I am getting enough rail stock for about twenty units.

Not going to be particularly cheap, at least not in the beginning.

It takes high volume to produce parts cheaply, not likely to ever happen with these niche market Enfield mounts.

I will try to make some for #1, #4, and Scout type.

If people are pleased with them they might want to ask Brownells to carry them.

That's probably the only way volume could reach a mass market point that may lower cost and price.
