I have gotten a malady in my hands and arms from work.  This hand-arm vibration trauma thing.  It is sorta like carpral tunnel. Problems in my  fingers, hands and arms some things are numb and some things ache.  I geuss I should have reported it earlier but being 54 it is hard to tell what is work related or what is age related.  It should eventually go away or at-least get better if we minimise my exposure to vibration which it the good news.  The bad news is my service on various comittees at work is about to increase by an order of magnitude.

boy do i hear you here - i cant use repetitive and impact type tools at all anymore without suffering such symptoms , that combined with the raynauds  disease which makes me susceptible to cold and pressures like firmly gripping the steering wheel or a rifle :>{

Definition

By Mayo Clinic staff

Raynaud's disease is a condition that causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers, toes, tip of your nose and your ears — to feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress. In Raynaud's disease, smaller arteries that supply blood to your skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas.

Women are more likely to have Raynaud's disease. It's also more common in people who live in colder climates.

Treatment of Raynaud's disease depends on its severity and the presence of associated conditions. For most people, Raynaud's disease is more a nuisance than a disability.

Oh-I almost forgot to mention...TRIGGER FINGER! (No-I'm NOT kidding)I had a milder case of it for a while..but was fortunate enough to be taken out of the mainstream @ Ford when I was diagnosed with cartilidge loss in my left thumb(just in time!) I was @ the point that when it hit-I could shake it out..now I dont see the symptoms(mainly cause I'm restricted to NO repetitive use of vibrating tools)This occurred after my 2 carpel tunnel operations.Ford & GM are filled w/people that have had the trigger-finger operations.(Tell me again about the "over-paid,lazy,underworked auto workers)

Boy, it's tough to get old! I have the numb\sore hand wrist thing but I don't have a work excuse, it's probably from riding motorcycles and pulling ropes sailing.
Asquare10, the wife has Raynaud's, this time of year I have to have a warm cup of water for her to hold when she comes in. The up side is she'll do the dishes just to warm her hands!

While still facing some tests to confirm it.  I think I am in the early stages of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome  or HAVS with some of the milder symptoms of Raynaud's.  I was wondering why my fingers are always cold.   Hoadie is right it does not get better and there is no treatment other than avoiding impact or vibrating tools.  It is more in the nussiance level right now and I think we can keep it there.

"up side is she'll do the dishes just to warm her hands!"

now dont be giving my wife any ideas here LOL

yup - aging is one thing i do not enjoy much , as to the raynauds mine affects the fingers and the toes in most unpleasant ways , but i cope most of the time ,

it was my fathers biggest disappointment as in later years it prevented him playing his banjo and performing with the dixieland band he formed , that broke his heart ,
