I'm seriuosly drooling on my key board. Too bad the company who makes them is in Australia. 7.62X39 is cheap enough ammo. readily avialible too. Even though it's not realy good for much given it's in the 30-30 class of rifles. Still would make a good brush gun though.

Here's a link to a website which retails new production Enfields. Man I feel like a kid in a candy store... |

These really made in Viet Nam for an Australian Company. U. S. Customs found out and have halted all importation as Viet Nam is still under sanction.

I really hate to have this as my first post, but my brother tried to give me
one of these AIA Mk10-A2 Enfield types in 7.62x39, and it is worst POS we have ever encountered. It is a beautifully finished and heavily over built rifle, but the fault is the horrendous attempt at adapting the 7.62x39 cartridge. It won't feed 5 cartridges out of 10. To add salt to the wound, we have returned it for service three times total, twice to Tristar and once to Sabre Defense Industries (who was to be the new importer). No one can fix it. Tristar's gunsmith won't answer the phone. Unfortunately for Tristar (who holds the 5 year warranty), my bro is a corporate litigation attorney, and he's PISSED. They're toast. So don't under any circumstances drool over the 7.62x39 AIA product. IT SUCKS. The .308 might be the deal though! If only Tristar would substitute one of those for my brother's rifle. I guess it must not feed either? |

Interesting. I have fired one with "russian" mags and they fed fine. But they remind me of something I read about 10mm pistols - "a calibre in search of an application". And I am NOT going to get involved in that argument. The point is that the M10 is a lovely piece of kit, but what is it for? It is not a service rifle so it is not going to be any use to a service rifle shooter. It is very heavy so it is not going to appeal to a hunter. Very mild recoil, too.

! I've seen a couple floating round our side of the pond but they don't
appeal to me for the reasons you've stated

It's a wonder why Norinco hasn't copied the No.4. But all the same ...a copy is a copy If I want a 7.62x39 then I'd get an SKS |

Well I guess that thought got killed in a hurry. It's for the better though. Winchester has come out with the first good looking rimfire I have seen in a long time. I'll probably buy that instead of an Enfield simply becuase Winchester is on shaky ground at the moment and I want to snatch up a couple before it's too late and the prices sky rocket.

It is a finely finished carbine, and based on our favorite Lee-Enfields at
that. Both my brother and I spent alot of time drooling over it where it sat on a rack at a gunshop in Richmond, Va. It seemed like the ultimate to us. Imagine my surprise and uncontrolled jubilation upon being presented with it on our shared 39th birthday! Twin brothers are like that sometimes. I was taken aback somewhat as I well knew the Garand- esque price tag, but in truth I protested little! But on our first shoot it became all to obvious that the geometry between the (modified for rimless cartridge) bolt, the (welded in) auxillary feed ramp, and the AK magazine wasn't anywhere close. There was just no way that this rifle was going to feed without major surgery. I've been messing with rifles for some time and I was honestly quite certain that the M10-A2 would be replaced straight away. I mean it didn't take a genius to see that it was a long way off in the feeding dept. Taking the retail cost together with the 5 year warranty and slick looking Tristar webpage, we dutifully packaged up the little monster with the two factory mags......and have been waiting/shipping/waiting/calling/writing ever since. And this rifle was returned the first time LAST SUMMER. Ever tried to sue someone in small claims court for a warranty service failure? In Kansas City, MO when you reside on the East Coast of the US? We're quite sure that Tristar fully recognizes the improbability of this ever coming to pass. But I've got news for them.....they don't know my bro. They'll be in court in KC so fast, and lose so fast, they will really, really regret ever screwing with him. He has plenty of better things to do with his time, but he is so tired of those folks at Tristar. He has the paper work ready and a local attorney to file. I believe the final straw was Tristar giving him the # to their gunsmith, who in turn is apparently afraid to answer his telephone. Not once did Tristar try to resolve this issue....they instead decided to keep sending the wretched (how did this abombination ever make it to Richmond without someone testing it along the way I'll never know. It's not like the Aussies or whomever cobbled it together can't tell when a round stops dead on the chamber mouth, 5 to 7 times out of a 10 round mag) thing back to him with no description of any work performed. Twice so far. Of course no offer to pay shipping to the middle of the Continent. All they had to do was arrange to have a working example (are there really any?) substituted, or exchange with a (working) .308, if they couldn't fix it. How do you get an AK based platform not to feed in the first place? I must say, after enduring their version of customer service, it is with some glee that I now wait for legal action to begin. The crazy thing is, we are probably two of the most non- confrontational, polite Southern little nobodies that could possibly have purchased such a flaming dud product. But Tristar is getting ready to find out that what goes around comes around. Thank you Bro. Edited by 303hunter - March 09 2006 at 9:38am |

Bought one of those AIA M10's myself on FRI, 2-24-06. Had it on layaway for two months. Beautiful Monte Carlo teak stock version. I thought this ought to be the most unique Enfield-type rifle ever made, considering the 7.62 x 39 caliber using AK mags. Well, after I got it home, I put a 3-9 x 40 scope on it with the neat rail that was supplied. I was really impressed with this baby!! The dealer told me he tried to get some more after his initial buy of two rifles-1 was presold and the other one I bought, but the distributors couldn't get anymore. Well, I thought, this might end up as a collector's item!!! Did a little web surfing, and went to Skennerton's web site, as he is the "guru" of enfield lore. In the Archives section, he has a blurb about these rifles-they aren't Australian-made. They were made in, of all places, Communist Vietnam!!!! Getting more unique by the minute, I am happy as a lark. Then I went to the range.........utter disappointment, as this pretty piece of parkerized steel and teak furniture won't feed with any AK mag that I tried, and I tried a bunch. There is no control of the cartridge after it leaves the magazine. The extractor doesn't grab it until after the round is chambered. Maybe 1 0f 10 rounds will feed into the chamber without a problem. The good news is that with Wolf 122 gn HP ammo, it shoots damn good-2" groups at a 100 yards using the scope set at 9 power. And it extracts without fail. But if you don't kill your target with the first shot, you have a problem!!!! And the plunger ejector set in the recessed bolt face ejects without fail too. The only fail safe way to load the weapon is to keep an unloaded mag in the receiver, and lay a single round on the mag follower. The bolt will then push it home every time. But putting rounds in the mag is an invitation to disaster and frustration. By the way, this pretty POS cost me almost $600 out- the -door. Now for $600, I could have bought a Ruger#1 single-shot if I had wanted a single-shot weapon, which I didn't. By the way, the US importer just changed their web pages deleting this POS weapon from the products they sell. I'm not going to waste any $ shipping it back to them as I now know they won't do anything to fix it. I think the commie Vietnam gun designer needs to go back to his rice paddy and give up gun designing, as his R&D needs a lot of additional work. Damn, I still like the weapon as a nice rendition of pretty teak wood and steel. If only the thing would work!!!! Another gunsafe "queen", I guess........

Welcome to the site Gunguy ! Many years ago whilst taking a walk in
the" light Green" I was a guest of the then Gov of south Vietnam ,By
the courtesy of the Australian Gov ! I was in those days involved with
the SAS & we quite often came across 1911's ,96 broom handle
mausers& Tompsons that had never seen the light of a parent company
! I have often wondered what happened to
Uncle Ho's underground factories ! It would seem they have found a new
nich in the market ! My advice is to find somebody who really craves
one of these rice Paddy specials & sell it to them ! Then with the
procceds buy yourself a nice SMLE
