Has any one heard or seen this before?
I have a friend bring me over a parts gun with a cracked receiver. Based on his description it is a striped rec/ barrel assembly that was "sporterized". I will know more by New Years. |

Well lets hope this guy is as bad as my Son Boogie on part names and has gotten confused, and its All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed and something else cracked and not the receiver !!
Boogie went a few months ago to help his future Father in Law clean out his garage, and the Ole Guy gave him a Mossberg bolt action .410 that he had stored out in the garage , it needs a new choke and a couple of other small parts , but other than that it is still functional !! Looks like it will be a project for Him and I to work on when the house stuff gets completed !!! |

If the receiver is cracked... leave it where it is.

Sounds to an un-educated guy like me, that he over loaded the charge.
But then again - he may have his terminology wrong Hoadie |

There are any number of reasons for a cracked receiver (if thats what he has) but yet to see one that was not the victim of some outside influence....

Who knows? Maybe something went wrong with a barrel change, or attempted one.
Where is this crack? Its really hard to troubleshoot with this little info. |

I believe Paddy is waiting for the rifle to arrive so he can take pictures; at least that's what I understand when I re-read the post.

rebarreled is a clue.
didn't the enfields have an odd thread size or thread angle (55 degrees?)different than other rifles. and isn't it possible to forcibly thread those other barrels on any way and damage the threads . its also possible that too much force may crack the receiver. Purely speculation but pull the barrel and see what the threads look like.

The U.S. M1917s were notorious for having barrels torqued on very hard, a relief cut has to be make in the barrel with a lathe to relieve the pressure to avoid cracking the receiver. Many novice learned the hard way that a lot of force on a big wrench is not the answer. None of my friends or I have ever removed a barrel from a SMLE so I don't know the situation with them. With war time production who knows.

With a bit of luck Saturday but from what I understand now it is a stripped action with barrel.
You always get crap from you "friends". |

I bought a Canadian stamped SMLE and during inspection I found the receiver cracked right under the ejector screw. It was in its correct configuration and the barrel matched the receiver.
I always do a complete inspection of all my milsurps
