i would say 'sad' but i suspect you have a plan , and that the sale of these were a part of the big picture , i trust they went to good collector homes , that is what counts when selling off the efforts we all go to to get what we have ,
ive been selling off my US collection , a little at a time , because i want to concentrate on my enfields without distraction , its been a sad parting but i know im in a better place , i do love my enfields

So I'm back at the gun show I picked this rifle up from and I come across another T. It's complete and a great price if real, $1600 (negotiated down from $1950). The main issue I have is there is no TR on the rear band and no T on the left side of the receiver. The scope and mounts look kosher. The cheek rest is there but was replaced at some point since you can see the old outline. What do you think about this latest find? Could it be real? If it's not, I'm thinking of buying it for the scope and mount, which still seems to be a good price...

IF the scope and mount are original then its a good price as they fetch eye watering prices. However be aware there are good replicas out there, as to the rifle all the previous posts will tell you all you need to know

Are there any clues to if the scope and mount are real?

Staked (punch marked) screw rims & a matching serial number of the same size & type face as the rifle would be good clues.

Okay, so I bought this one. It doesn't look like the rifle is real but the stock (except scope number), scope and scope mount look correct. What do you think? (I'm not a photographer...)
Scope side. No 4 Mk 1* and no T mark. The scope is a No 32 Mk 3. Scope mounts are X801 and X802. The front of the bolt does not have an S but has two 3's, one upside down and one on it's side. The scope if pretty clear, with the cross wire not quite level. Sorry about the glare on the bottom part. 'S' mark on the front band. Marks just rearward of front band. Looks line 'N' '49' 'the crown' and '6C'. Marks at front of receiver. Marks just rearward of trigger guard. The S51 stamp. Rear band. No TR stamp. Bolt number. Force matched? The cheek rest was replaced at some time. You can see the marks of the old one. I don't know if it can be determined if this cheek rest is a replacement made recently or an original model. You can see the outline of the old cheek rest here also. From earlier posts, the screws look correct. So, what do you think? Real rifle, fake rifle, real scope and mount? |
