Upon cleaning my no4 I found some copper fouling streaks inside the barrel. While this is fairly normal, I was quite pleasantly suprised due to the fact that it is a 71 year old rifle. I say pleasantly, because surplus rifles have used barrels and the rifling can be worn out. I was glad to see that the rifling is still strong and biting the projectiles. So in this case I was glad to see fouling haha. It is a bit stubborn to get out but for the most part its gone. The rifle shoots great. Ill be doing some real grouping with it soon. Id also like to mention that my relic is FTR.

I don't know why but every Lee Enfield I've ever had has been a "copper magnet", maybe its the Enfield pattern rifling?
Its not the bullet material, over the years Ive use many different types & brands & it grabs all of it equally.

They don't seem to mind though unless its really obnoxiously heavy.

Well from my experience, the first time I shot it, I only used PRVI ammo and had no fouling at all. Second time around I put some Remington ammo down it and found the fouling. As I mentioned in my post I will be shooting for groups soon and I will be using both Remington and Prvi to see my rifles potential. Also, I did put exactly 5 Federal soft points through my rifle as well. 150gr.

Privi projectiles are much the same as Milsurp, hard.......whereas Remington, Winchester etc. are soft sporting jackets and foul more.

............Although the advantage of softer jackets is that they bump up more and help those worn barrels a bit.

I haven't had that problem with either of mine. I coat the bore with a film of breakfree. It helps a lot.
