Howdy. I'm trying to ID a stock. I was told it belonged to a 1906 Enfield. It has the DP stamp, and the red-white-red stripes, a large red BF. Any info would be great.
I have pics in my file manager but how do I get them to this post?

I think I figured out what it is - a P14 Fat Boy stock. Hopefully this is the way to post pics. My next question would be, should I refinish the stock or leave it as is?

For what it's worth (and probably not news to Enfield owners), the barrel and action of my M1917 30-06 almost...almost drops right into this stock. With alot of cleaning, maybe a minor modification to the magazine well, it would fit (except for the top handguards). Interesting. I'd like to find a sporterized P14 and restore it.

I have never seen the "BF" or the stripes before.
What do they signify?

I'm not sure what the BF stands for, but I think the stripes and the DP stamp indicate that it was used for "Drill Purpose" only.
There's another one on Gunbroker for sale (not mine):

yes it appears to be an eddystone 'fatboy' stock , these would date to WWI tho , not 1906 , more like 1916 , the pant signifys a variety of things and im not up on it , but mostly the 'classification' of its servicability ,

my Pattern 1914 is an eddystone - the dark one here ,

Nice collection.
The M1917 30-06 I have is a Winchester.
I found the painted stock in an antique shop for cheap money. I think I might restore it - strip the paint, restore the wood while leaving any cartouches.
What is the purpose of the round metal disk on the left side of the stock? I cleaned the metal and found numbers, starting at 25 and moving down.

Ah ha - volley sights, right?

The red and white paint signifies Drill Purpose and is commonly found on arms in India service.

My guess is that the BF is for Blank Fire.

I would have thought that the two would not be on the same rifle at the same time.
But India seems to often do things their own way and do not always comply to Brit specs.

The round metal disc looks like the remains of a valley sight.

I suggest that you don't strip and refinish it until you come across a rifle that needs a stock. Who knows more information may come to light and you could regret spoiling something important.

Good point. I think I'll leave it "as is" for now.

"...Ah ha - volley sights, right?..."

yes , mine has her volley sights but the DP stock does not , it once did but they are gone , could have gone through weedon or just been removed when it was DPd

the top is a winchester M1917 and the center is a remington M1917 that saw service in canada , there is remnants of the red paint on her that would have indicated it was 3006 - not 303 ,
