Been doing some annual cleaning on my firearms and this week has been focused on my Winchester Model 97 shotguns. One is from my Grandpa Shea and the other was given to me from the family of a guy who was a mechanic mentor to me. I ran the serial numbers to see the years they were made. My Grandpa's was made in 1952. That makes sense since he bought it as a replacement for one that was lost in a house fire int 1953. The other from my mentor was made in 1941. That kind of blew me away and also explains why it needed a couple repairs. Both are awesome shotguns! Just had to share a bit

i like it - looking up the history and dating these old items are often more fun than cleaning and fondling , almost , so glad yours have family/personal attachment , makes them even more special
i have a couple of those , one is a 1911 cylinder bore the other 1912 full choke , they shoot well , and there is something special about shooting a piece of history
