The only one I ever had was a BSA made & it had a brass butt plate.
Thinking about it the 4 we had at the squadron for the team all had brass as well.

Just my opinion on this subject but I would assume the lack of a brass butt plate on a T rifle is for the sake of a non reflective surface so as not to be seen. I realize the zinc plates can get a tad shiny but,not as shiny as the brass ones. Again, just my opinion.

More likely that brass was still a "strategic material" for a while after WW2.
My '55 Faz has brass so I guess they got past the shortages?

I will go with the war time strategic material based on the currant count of war time and post war rifles with either butt plate.

I will do some digging around with a few people I know involved in service rifle competition in the UK. Just to see what their opinions are.

Yes I know these are not #4T's but they are war and post war rifles.

That man is a wealth of info and he shares it freely. He explained to me the proper way to replace a handguard retaining ring on a No 5, then he explained the shortcut method used by him and many other armourers. I copied it all down for the future.

i have owned a lot or rifles both no1 and no4 versions , most had brass , i noted those that came with the MAZAK/ZAMAC but plates were north american made , i am not in any way trying to make a statement of fact only throwing that out as fodder , as a collector what have you all seen ?
