Yes the tension is normal. The ring (stop collar) on the striker is designed to hit the inside edge of he bolt head to provide a positive "stop" to forward travel.

I would highly recommend reading the detailed methods of bolt fitting etc by Captain Peter Laidler. They are all available on line in the Lee Enfield part of the milsurp's forum. They are well worth the read and will give you a good idea of fit and function.
While the bolt action rifle appears a very simple machine to operate; they do need proper set up to function properly and safely.
A lot of the small details are not obvious to our untrained eyes.
For example: when you pull the trigger to first stage, the cocking piece moves backwards slightly; and if you decide not to shoot and release the trigger, it will move forward again. Pushing the sear back up the cocking piece face. If it does not return fully, the sear would be on the edge and could go off if the rifle was knocked or dropped.
That is why the detailed write up's of the professional's are excellent info for us. They can help us learn quickly and prevent us doing something stupid or dangerous.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

The "Jungle Carbines" are fun! They do kick like a mule, but they are a hoot to shoot.

I thought of you bolt opening issue last weekend when it happened to me after refitting the safety on my No1MkIII*.
The safety lock that moves into the bolt channel when on; has a multi start thread. I put it back on  one thread off, so when the safety was off, the lug was slightly proud in the channel. When unlocking the closed bolt, the safety lug was snagging in the bolt's cocking piece groove. Thus preventing the lifting of the bolt handle. However it did not effect the closure. I realised what had happened and as soon as I removed the safety, the bolt opened.
Something to check when refitting the safety.
