You really should try to give us a "full" pic of your rifle. It would help us greatly.

Its a sporterised SMLE, AKA Rifle No 1 Mk III* & I think the barrel is cut, making a return to "as was" condition a hard row to hoe.
It was completely overhauled to 80% of "like New" condition at some point (FTR stamp)
It was originally a military arm (the "royal Cypher) crown, but was sold into the civilian market later (The "BNP", Birmingham Nitro Proof, not "DNP", that's a bad stamping) was a requirement for rifles sold into the civilian market in the U.K.
In original condition it would have looked like this (except for the fancy rear "Target" sight, which is a later civvvy add-on..

Definitely look’s like it’s been shortened as mentioned above, looks like the inner barrel band was removed too can’t make it out (see it etc) meaning if so the barrel is free floated to the fore stock & held in place by the (King Screw=big front screw on the trigger guard assembly.)
The original barrel looks to have been replaced with a standard 1940 (broad arrow 40) in the photo during the FTR process.
A nice truck sporter carbine now Thumbs Up
Cheer’s.

Anyone seen the Tardis Box anywhere? 🤨

Wow, thanks for the information, I bought this rifle over 40 years ago from a friend. Does anybody have an idea about the value? Is it worth anything?
