My son and I restore old rifles and we recently acquired a savage Enfield that has been “sporterized.” We need a wood set before we can start the build. Does anyone have one for sale? Thank you!

Has the barrel been been shortened? If the barrel has been cut back past the front sight base, restocking the rifle in full furniture is pointless. If however the barrel has not been shortened, then by all means ,go for it. There is a gentleman from the UK, "dean156four" on eBay that is always selling complete No4Mk1 furniture sets...

Are the Sarco ones any good? It looks like a good price but also seems like a gamble on what pieces and wood type you get.

If it says its savage marked then get it. If you`re wanting it as factory released then all the metal bits should be savage stamped. Maybe longbranch parts, but not 100% sure if Savage actually used any LB parts. I know When savage was done LB acquired spares from Savage.

You can call and ask them to match the type of wood together instead of having a hodge-podge of wood parts.
As far as the wood being any good? In a nutsheII, it will work for what you are doing...

The "forend stock parts set" & "No4 Mk1 wood set" would be a great one shop stop for what you need. Bear in mind matching wood color is a modern conceit. Back when it would be very much "if it fits it ship's". Can't do any harm to ask for matching though if its important to you.

As I am also restoring a sporterized No4 Mk 1 this was a great reminder not to worry about matching wood color (or anything else) as my goal is to get it back to 'wartime' condition. Thanks!

I recently bought a SARCO wood set and here is what I got: The butt was unfinished, marking JC under the elbow and S (Short) on top clear and distinct. The upper hand guards and Forend were a darker color. The Forend had a "H" marking on it (haven't figured that out yet). The forward upper handguard cap is marked MA and 25 on the inside; as a newbie I couldnt find any markings on the rear hand guard.

Thanks! I wanted folks to have an idea of what they might get if the order the SARCO set. Any idea on the “H” (or I?) on the Forend? I just hope it fits well!

Most of the "Makers Marks" on the forend will be just below the forend cap. The JC should have a N22 stamp underneath the JC. N22 is the wartime dispersal code for John Curtis & Son. The "Makers Mark" on the upper and lower handguards should be on the underside, in the barrel channel...

This might sound dumb, but if an order is made and you want to request for color matching or a certain forend for example, I assume you just call them right?

Call them and explain what you are looking for. The worst they can say is "we don't do that."
