HI
I am new to the forum and wanted to know how to remove the sights from a #1 Mark 3 Enfield barrel. I may want to put Sportized Martini action. In stead of lining the existing barrel.

The block is held on the barrel by a pair (IIRC) of cross pins, fitting in grooves across the barrel. You drive them out then tap it forward off the barrel's muzzle (maybe) removing the front sight block too as to allow it to exit over the muzzle.

Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)

Drive the pin out from left to right.

And remove the leaf spring retaining screw. There is a shallow hole in the barrel into which that screw aligns.

Please use a hardwood drift or a brass punch to drive it forward. The rear of the base is easily damaged. It doesn't effect function, but it looks like crap having the edges blurred (like the one in Shamu's picture). Just helps when selling it as a spare part.

The front sight ramp also has a cross pin. Drive it out left to right. The base is keyed onto the barrel but now can be driven forward and off the barrel.
