Gent's, I'm considering putting a scope on one of my No8 rifles; for use in the .22 hunter class which our club is starting to host. I have a CZ455 which is good for this; but I'm thinking it may be fun to see how competitive the old Enfield can be up against the new heavy barelled .22's.
So I need a scope mount that's bolt on, probably same as the No4. It needs to be good quality, but not necessarily Fulton's quality, as recoil is not going to be a problem.

So what's a good deal on this type of scope mount? Probably go for a Tasco scope, I have one of these on the CZ and it's very good quality for the price.
Should look like a mini L42 a1 when it's done.

I like the S&K "Insta Mount". I have one on my #5 Carbine sporter. Its basically a copy of the Fultons & attaches the same way (Rear sight pivot points & Charger bridge clamp) so its No drill, no tap. I got mine with their own rings, not the Weaver rail, because it sits lower. My only (minor) complaint is that that the rail is pretty short compared to the Fultons.

I like those S&K's although I don't own one. Very clean looking. I have purchased a couple of the Addley Precision mounts. I've been very impressed with them.

Does the S&K mount put the scope vertically above the center line of the barrel?

Yep TDC just like the Fultons does.
So it does not allow charger loading if that was the question.

The thread is about scoping a No.8.
Charger loading is something I would like to see on a No.8...Wacko

Trouble topping up the magazine StanforthThumbs Up

Pleased to hear you've got a No8 to fill the space in your safe.
The only issue I may have scoping one of mine; is that I may not get it to fit in the safe without removing the scope! Space is a premium.

OK then you'd need the Weaver rail with QD mounts & make them then lowest you can find to compensate. Luckily the ends of the scope can expand well past the rail as its so short.
I seem to remember "extra Low" ones existing?

I'm not sure what the intent of the original question was, or on what rifle, so I went for the obvious one!Question

The No8 is a single loader; no magazine. The adjustable trigger mechanism takes up some of that space. I think Stanforth was just having a wee joke with you Shamu!

That's correct. Wink

To be serious, it shows how rare the No.8 is and I hope that you don't spoil one by drilling the action for a scope. I have just had a look at mine and compared it with a No.4 and can't see why a 'no Gunsmith' type mount wouldn't fit. I have one on my No.4 Mk1* and it works well. Don't spoil what will be / is one of the rarest of the breed. I can say that having spent 2 years looking for one on a 'money no object' basis.

Don't worry; I would never use a drill and tap type on it!
Although I think one of my rifles has been tapped for the PH rear sight. as I believe is quite common. I'll have to take a closer look at that.
I have one based on the No4 receiver and one based on the No5; not sure which one has the extra hole.

Mine is an early one (1950) and was set up from new as a competition rifle. It has Parker Hale 5c rear sight and a higher standard of finish than a Cadet rifle.
