Also, if it was a 12" square, the hole, by my calculations, would have been made by a 3.732" Calibre.

No offense taken.
For reference, those holes are .312."
Using my dial calipers and good eye I measured. 0.890" for that group. |

klr... my calibre joke was in reference to the comment on "if it's a 12" group, appalling!" from another poster. Of course it wasn't. The 100 yard grouping your Sporter shots is a tribute to your rifle and your marksmanship. I speak only for myself... please be a regular poster as you obviously appreciate Enfields. I had a rocky start on this forum a few years ago... so many good people and so much knowledge!

That group makes it a great hunting rifle; good for putting meat on the table.
Many of these rifles were converted over the years. Not all of them can be returned to original military spec', and not all of them need to be. It would not be worthwhile trying to restore it; just enjoy it as is; on the range or hunting.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Ah yes! The famous "3.7" Enfield, Flanged & Belted Magnum", usually reserved for hunting "Giant Gramplepooposes" on the famous "“Great Grey-Green, Greasy Limpopo River”! Thuddy-ought-six shown for comparison. ![]() |

Honkytonk -- Yep, I got the joke. I thought it was pretty good that you calculated it out to three decimal places.
