I would still very much like to find a 1942 lithgow buttstock. My ozzie lithgow 42 dated No1 has had the wood worked over by a bubba and hence is fugly. Like to find real decent ozzie wood for the whole thing but I'd settle for a buttstock with intact markings dated '42.
Alos looking for a nice buttstock for my '42 dated Longbranch No4 as some bubba refinished that and it looks like crap !. Not looking for anything sanded or bubba refinished please. On another note I am still searching for a reloading die set for 50/70 govt caliber. Anyone have such to spare or know of such ?.

I will check the date on my NOS coachwood butt. If I don't get back to you in a few days please remind me. It has the normal dings and dents.

W ; Great !. Though I am not looking for unfinished NOS wood. If it's used and or has original finish AWESOME. As I have searched for some time for a decent No4 Longbranch buttstock I always got offered NOS unfinished wood...I had some even and gave it all away . I'm not into the new unfinished wood. Bill.

Mine is '42 dated SLAZ. Looks unfitted but with a lot of storage wear/grime. Only finish on it is from the factory dunk as far as I can tell.

Just curious bubba ho tep. You are looking for a buttstock dated 42 with all the usual dings yet an unfinished buttstock is a no-go? WilliamS has presented you what can only be described as a, "brand new" buttstock that, you can finish it as you see fit to match the existing furniture. There is a gentleman on eBay that has an unfinished/unissued buttstock for a Long Branch as well. Why not use an unissued/unfinished piece of wood??

Particularly as "Finish" is just a bunch of coats of linseed oil. Cheap to buy & easy to use. The local art supply store should have a small bottle of it available.

I'll even apply the first coat before shipping, if you'd like. I have a forend and handguard that need oiling anyways.

W ' Thanks for the offer. But I could never make raw wood match an original finish. Kind of a collector thing with me. As an afterthought the rifle was rebarreled in 1954 so I could even use '54 dated wood. Just not NOS unfinished.

No problem. If you change your mind let me know, I don't have any later Lithgows on the project rack right now so it will probably sit around a while. Factory NOS wood isn't raw though. It was dunked in hot linseed oil tanks. It just dosen't have the accumulated grime and additional oil from service use. ![]() You can get them pretty close with some work. The handguard is original, the forend is a reproduction that started truly raw.
