Goosic mailed me a starter package and I didn't know it arrived Friday. My roads were bad from the weather so I just assumed it wouldn't be delivered until next week. I found the package the mailman left in the cab of my pickup today.

Goosic, thanks a bunch for this! He sent me 125 cases, 2 boxes of Hornady 174 gr RN bullets and a box of Hornady 150 gr Spire Point bullets.

When you mentioned it I went looking on GB but I didn't dig deep enough. Lots of stuff gets posted up over there in a short amount of time. I am thinking on that. Few pieces may be handy to have and another press wouldn't hurt.

I am very glad the package showed up. I figured that the 174grn round nose stuff would be perfect for you if you hunt. It will stop an Elk dead in its tracks.

I am excited about those! I plan to work up a load for one of my No 4's for deer hunting next year.

Okay, another question for you guys. What brand of primers do you all like using and have had the most success with? Second, what do you guys use for installing the primers? I see so much from the handheld priming systems to the bench mounted ones and just wanted some info on what you all use.

On the Norma 202 powder, why do you use the Magnum primers? Sorry for any stupid questions, this is all so new to me and I just want to understand.

I'm actually following the guideline set forth from my Norma reloading manual. Norma uses WLRM primers primers for all of their loads. Magnum primers have a better across the board flash upon firing that gives the Norma powder a very consistent burn rate...

I use the CCI # 200 (Large Rifle) primers, assuming I can get them.
When there was the latest round of shortages I was obliged to use TulAmmo primers, I do not suggest or recommend them I had problems with feeding & jammed up feed tubes constantly.

I prime on my Dillon presses. Apart from the bad primers mentioned above I've never had a problem.

Sometimes a particular powder "likes" a hotter match so sometimes magnum primers are suggest for more consistent ignition. Its not JUST about pressure. Magnum primes burn hotter for longer than regular primers.

Keep it simple Bear.

Starting out, and reloading for several Lee Enfield rifles all with different sized chambers, full length resize.

Take about 20 cases (one box) for reloading.

Follow the reloading manual to the letter.

Don't bother crimping.

You will be excited to shoot off what you have reloaded. So go shoot them off and reload them again.
Full length resize. Load. Shoot them off in different rifles. Reload them again. No annealing, no case length trimming. Keep it simple.

What you are doing is to recycle them through and see what, if and when any issues pop up. Deal with the issues as they appear (eg case length).

As you get experienced with the basics and have solid knowledge, then you can start to do the clever stuff. Neck sizing only, partial resizing, bumping the neck, rubber bands etc.

I did lots of experimentation with dies, bullets, powder, incantations, trying to get the best and the most reloads out of my cases.

Years later, I find that I have gone full circle and find myself back at full length resizing and loading as per the manual with my favourite bullets and powder.

Reloading is a hobby on its own. There is good info on the web, but just as much BS.  You will get lots of response. Stick with the info in your manual.

Getting advice from a number of people who reload is like asking a number of chefs about making a certain dish. They all make a delicious meal with their good recipes, each with their own flair.

But if I were to leave you with one piece of wisdom about reloading, that would be if you are ever unsure about something, don't do it!

Strive to be a perfectionist! The thought,  'I think that this might be ok?' can have serious consequences.

Seconded. Reload small batches at first. That's when you'll make the beginners mistakes as we all did. Its less frustrating if you have to pull down mistakes if theres only a handful of them!

Whatever reloading manual you decide to settle on,read it and then read it again, and then read it some more. Read about the powder you will be using. When setting up your chosen press and dies, set everything according to the instructions, the default mode. Never hesitate to ask questions where answers are needed as well.
