The instructor looks in from the side & the 45 prism lets him see your sight alignment. Then he can coach you on any changes needed.

Look at this shooters head position. This is exactly how I hold the No. 4. Head well forward.  My support hand (left hand) is further forward that this, but same right hand grip and head position.

this.
The "cheek Weld" is between the bottom of the right cheekbone & the top of the first bone of the right hand.
Its a "riser" perfectly suited to the height of the issue sights & a physical indication of a correct & constant shooting stance.

Exactly Shamu!

With a normal butt stock, my body is about 30 degrees off to the line of fire.  I can’t have my body in line with the direction of fire, like the USMC teaches.  Impossible for me to pull my right leg up, throws my lower back into intense pain. Oh, I wish I had taken up this sport when I was young and flexible.

We were taught to fire at an angle!
The big argument back then was bending the right knee to tighten thigh muscles

Jan 65?
I would guess these would be on issue to army cadets with that date and possibly the Ulster Defence Regiment formed in 1970 and initially armed with No.4's. (That was to change very quickly!)

Before someone objects I have no idea why I'm credited with that picture!
I didn't take it & I haven't claimed it in any way.

Because you posted that picture and that info in a reply to a post on enfield-rifles.com back in 2018.

It came up in a google search.

OK, I guess its "Oldtimer's Disease" (CRS).
Sick
I don't claim it as mine though even if I did post it.
I probably just found it online somewhere.
