I have been using cheap ammo in my 1918 SMLE .22
But I thought I would try some better quality stuff to see if it tightened up the groups.
At the last two competitions My score was lower than normal. The rifle had not had a clean for far too long, and I think that may be the reason for the change. So I gave the barrel a good clean and set out to test the Eley Edge ammunition. It's 13 Euro a box instead of 6 Euro for the SK.

So I set up on a front bag support for the test at 50 metres.
First round, pulled the trigger, nothing! , so I rotated the bullet and tried again, nothing. So loaded a second. Of the 5 first shots, only two fired first pull. Two went off at second pull, after rotating the rim. The first bullet didn't go after four attempts I have up!
I doesn't help your concentration.
These rounds don't have a copper case, they are black.
I will try them in the other.22's
The second reason for going to the range was to let my 14 year old daughter shoot the .22 from the standing position. She's been shooting seated since she was 7, but this was the first time ever, standing unsupported.
I gave her 10 rounds of the SK ammo, the target is a C50 at 50 metres.
She shot 74/100. Which is a great start!
Next year she will compete with us in the trainer class.
She has more natural talent than me and the missus.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

You never know till you try which brand your rifle will like.
I tried this when I firs got my 10-22 many years ago. I bough 1 of each of every kind of ammo I could find.
Then I tried them all for 10 round groups on a bunch of targets all on the same range on the same day.
Oddly the most preferred of everything was Remington Thunderbolts!
I bought a bunch of them & am slowly working my way through them all these years later.
Most were $11.00 a BRICK!
Then, back in Long Island, NYS there was a well-meaning ammo buy back. A dollar a round to "Get deadly bullets off our streets"!
I took 2 boxes of 50.
Star
Then they suddenly set an upper limit on how many deadly bullets they could afford to Get off the streets.
& spent the lot on bricks of Remington Thunderbolts!
Tongue
Oddly they perform well in my only other .22RF, the tubed SMLE!

Shamu, when I bought my first No8 rifle, I bought six different types of ammo. One of which, was Eley Team. It was the worst of all with that rifle.Sowhen I bought my second No8, I took the remains of my selection for a test. The Eley was last out of the bag, and I only decided to give it a go, because I had one target left. It was the best of all in that rifle!
I bought more and used it for competition with that rifle. But it went out of stock.
This new stuff doesn't have a copper case, and I think that it may need a harder strike.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Zed, CCI standard velocity Target .22 Rimfire ammunition is reliable and insanely accurate in both of my No. 2's.  If it's available over there I highly recommend you try it.

I have a new batch of CCI, that I bought for the pistol. But I have had good results with it in the Enfield's.
Our club stocks SK Match, which is also quite good.

Yeah, they're all really picky
Regarding cleaning.
Its the ONLY bore-snake I use, the .22 rimfire.
I do 2 wet & 3 dry passes that's it!
The snake is then washed in dish detergent with a lot of agitation, rinsed & dried twice then hung up to dry before the next use.
My theory is with the external lube of.22 RF is that some needs to remain, but  not so much it dries over time & clogs up the rifling. This way the more extreme cud is removed & I can quickly get back to shooting. However a trace of the dri lube of whatever type remains, so the bore is s till "cured" for that type of lube.
If I'm forced to change ammunition type, for any reason, then I do a "normal" brushes, solvent patches & oil" deep cleaning to allow the new lube to not mingle with the old. Then I start over with a clean, cold barrel.

he!!o Zed,

With my Sako Quad Range, Vortex Venom 5x25x56 telescope, I did run a test at 50 meters with SK Magazine, SK Yellow and CCI Standard Velocity.
Considering the difference of cost, there is no reason to not feed my C No7 Mk 1 with CCI SV.
