This morning our district morns yet another farmer killed. Senseless murder. Guy was stabbed to death during a robbery (home invasion) at his home.

That's 3 in the past week. A very tragic thing. It is looking to be the story and future of that beautiful country from my detached point of perspective. "Planet of the apes" is not such a far fetched thought.

I've been a bit slack lately. My "9 iron" is back on my hip after a few months in the safe. |

Are farmers specifically being targeted only, or is it a wider problem we're just seeing the tip of?

We are not targeted because we are farmers. We are targeted because of the remoteness. It's more a case of the level of brutality. In the city someone may take you phone off you or break into your house when you are not there. On farms they are more likely to be violent when they enter the property. It is not uncommon for the family to be tied up and beaten/raped/murdered. Many times the place has been cased well before hand and they know what to expect. It is very seldom an opportunistic crime.

Sounds like it's a rough time for you in SA Dairyfarmer. Definitely need to make sure all your family and workers are up to spec with firearms. Do you use trail cameras in areas where access to your property is likely? It may show up someone suspicious or supply evidence if it all turns bad!
Stay sharp

Seems you're getting the same problems Zimbabwe has, D-F.
Have good friends from there. It's a bad job.

Got the electric fence, got the dogs, got the firearms, got the security gates, got the bars on the windows. Cameras no good as I got 20km (12miles) of boundary fence.
We are very fortunate that very few of the farm attacks are politically motivated. Its mainly pure crime. We have been lucky so far not to go down the same route as Zim regarding farms. There it was land "promised" to veterans.
