I have a screw that I'm having trouble getting out. I think it's called the fore stock bolt. It turns freely but that's about it. I don't want to ruin the wood or cut the screw out if at all possible. I'd appreciate any help y'all can provide Thanks.. I am including a couple of pics below |

There's supposed to be a round nut with a slot cut in it on the other side. You A: seem to need one, & B: have to hold it with a slotted screwdriver to tighten the bolt. This is aftermarket & also has a washer. |

Get a tiny blade type screw driver and get it in one of the slots while turning out the bolt. It takes a bit of finesse with a loose fitted bolt but it can be done. I had stated in your other post to not cut that forestock. A Mk2 stockset complete is selling at almost 500 USD now.

I modified a flat tip screwdriver bit by grinding the tip with dremel cutoff wheel.

surprised no one commented about his having taken the butt stock off without removing the fore-end first.

That's an issue on No 1's. No 4's had a different style of butt stock bolt in conjunction with a spring washer. The newer design did not extend into the back of the fore-end.

I expect that with the suitable tools; you should be able to remove the screw.
However if the screw cannot be loosened; I would suggest drilling out the screw thread for the nut end. That way you just need to find a replacement screw and nut.

Thanks everyone for you advise. I was able to get the screw out using first a slender screwdriver and then I found eclip- pliers and filed the tips down to finish the job. I will make a tip like "britrifles" has for future work. I'm also going to buy replacements. This time with a locking washer. Thanks again.
