What is the consensus about the bore snake as a means to clean, well, the bore? Is it better than a bore cleaning kit (brass brushes + cloth pads + rod thingie)?

No.
It is a good field-expedient clean but a rod with brushes & patches is much better.

Good to know. I guess I will be looking for a single piece rod that is long enough to use with Mr Lee.

I also use Bore snake, but only on Range - immediately after shooting. BTW - Brush can i use only once. Barrel on my Lithgow is so rough, it grinds the Brush  instantly to next smaller caliber.

BTW - big HELLO to all members

Slovenia. am glad that I have found the way here ... there are Lee Enfield enthusiasts all over the Globe Big smile

My first one was a '52 ROF No4MKII, after that '41 Lithgow SMLE and  at last a L1A1 (Ok, it is not a Enfield anymore, but..)

Bore Snake with a dab of Hoppe's #9 on the tip at the range, then a proper boil-out and patch cleaning & oiling at home.
