I had the No 4 Mk 1 at the range today. When I went to clean it and remove the bolt the rear sight will not let it pass. I don't have the ladder sight but the peep sight. There is a U under the sight that looks like it was designed to pass the bolt but it does not. Is there a step I am missing? Before I go grinding on the sight to give more room I would like to know if that is the only answer. Both settings on the sight will not let the bolt pass. Thanks. |

You will need to remove the scope, then remove the rear flip sight, otherwise the bolt will not pass through for removal.

The "flip sight" set @ 300 yards should allow the bolthead to pass under it with no issues at all.
Intresting that it won't...

The scope has nothing to do with the issue. I took the rear sight off and used a dremel and removed some of the material. It now passes on both sides of the peep site. It was really close and only hit on the very left edge. Not sure why but I just used a sand barrel on the dremel and it fixed it. Strange it did not work but I have been told these are not drop in anything parts.

(The only non "drop-in" component is the bolt assembly which is fitted and matched to the Action Body during assembly.)

I think He's replying to CANUK's post? "The "flip sight" set @ 300 yards should allow the bolthead to pass under it with no issues at all. Intresting that it won't..." THIS^^^. I have never had such a problem. What's more I don't know of any one else that has either? ![]() Did you depress & hold the bolt catch down while withdrawing the bolt Then flip the bolt head to Vertical?

Just an observation here regarding your scope setup edteach.
To avoid any possible contact between the scope adjustment ring and the rear sight, you might consider leaving the flip sight completely off of the rifle when the scope is in place or, cut one of the peep sights off and turn it into a "fold down" type sight when not in use. I have a Custom No4Mk1* chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition with a reproduction telescopic scope mount and it has a modified and cutdown Mk2 sight that when not in use, stays folded down...
