My Dad purchases an Enfield 303 from K-Mart in the early 60's. I think he paid $19.95 for it and it was still wrapped in the greese and paper. He had it "cut down", as they say here in the south, to a beautiful and very useful sporting gun. The only drawback was the short butt. This was easy to overcome and I've shot several nice three shot groups at 100 yrds that could be covered by a quarter. It is one of the most accurate guns I've ever fired. Dad was a much steadier hand and could run and oil can through at 150 yrds. It has been the only game gun I've ever used (not including small game). I shoot factory loaded 180s and they are getting harder and harder to find. I'm glad I found a group of people who love this gun as much as I do.

Welcome to the site,ShortRibs. If you aint crackers when ya came, you soon will be!(Most of the blokes on this site are a bit "rummy")
I dunno what part of the states your in, but if'n you got a Bass Pro shop nearby - go there.I find that the stores in Buffalo, Rochester & Syracuse N.Y. all have .303 British in stock. Its not the same price as we in the commonwealth countries pay, but I thought it to be reasonable - given the N.I.H. American mantra. Fer deer & the like -I use 150 grn.(If your gonna take partridge with it - put the bullet about 1" to the SIDE of it's head.DON'T HIT IT(you'll end up lickin the bullet-if U find it- fer the meat!!) @ approx 1" from the head, the velocity of the bullet goin by spins the head off fer ya REAL neat like.NO SPOILAGE.Step on the wings-pull the legs & presto!!Partridge breast-per-plucked & clean. I use 180 fer Moose etc.But don't be afraid to use 150!! It will still take anything on THIS continent. Our Thanksgiving weekend here, & I can't go hunting!(Partridge opened 1 Oct) But Deer starts soon.Cant wait. Hoadie |

Short ribs, You might want to check out a company called "ammo to go"
Internet based & they have good quality .303 from Yugoslavia called Prvi Partizan. Comes in 150 & 180 gr softpoint & 175Gr ball. Very reasonable prices too.
I haven't tried reloading it yet, but it is reloadable.
(At least I hope it is as I just bought dies & a caliber conversion kit from Dillon

Well-me mates are off today for the Caribou hunt.(Maybe when I win the lottery-I can go too). From here(Niagara Falls) they drive(this time) to Montreal. There they board a 727 (one of the aborigibal airlines) & fly 2 1/2 hrs north. Then they get on a twin Otter,& fly another 2 hrs north to Ungava Bay.The fish up there is spectacular!!6 hunters in the party(some are just fishin),there'll be @ least 4 lee Enfields.
Just like deer hunt-they always bring then for "back-up" & in most cases they end up using 'em as main armament. By the by-my Moose camp drew 4 Moose tags!!Whoo-Hoo!! I drew a bull,& 2 other guys in the camp drew Cows. Our sister group(Wicklow Camp) drew a Bull as well.I suspect the ole freezer will be getting replenished with quality venison this year!! Hoadie |

Well, Hoadie when one goes anywhere by twin otter you may as well use what the locals are using. Basically anywhere in Canada a twin otter flies most people have an Enfield, IE the Rangers. As far as the Bass Pro Shop thing goes thats mostly a geographical thing that the northern states stock .303 British given there proximity to us and the way rifles went back and forth across the border back in the day.
But Hoadie brings up a good shop, as any bass pro shop will order in the ammo, and because there other shops stock it you won't have to pay a special order fee or buy 'X' amount of ammo at a time.
