I have been incredibly careful with this rifle, unfortunately up until this point. I had it resting against the wall, but at a bad angle and it fell to the floor. I have pictures of the damages and I just hope it can be fixed. And if so what parts would I need?
Thanks to any and all in advance.

from what I can see it has pushed the side of the action rail in is that correct
If that is the problem you should be able to use a slide hammer to pull it back

I don’t see it. The areas circled in red appear fine to me...

Is the extractor spring a bit mis-placed do you think?
Sliding to the floor couldn't damage the action, wood maybe, but not the works. Welcome 44-4! What appears wrong when you close the bolt? |

From the pic I think the extractor spring has snapped & slid forwards, jamming up the extractor claw? If so its fixable easily. remove the bolt from the action. remove the head from the bolt. carefully unscrew the cross screw that holds the claw & spring in place, pull forward to remove. Items #44, 45, & 46 in the diagram. I can't figure out what the other circled "damage" is supposed to be from the pictures, sorry. Can you give a description? ![]() |

Whats the issue in the 2nd picture? I can see a fresh looking wood chip to the right side of the red circle, is the receiver cracked?

I think what you're seeing is the extractor spring, which is curved. BUT it is also "U" shaped & they are kind of well known for breaking at the bottom of the "U". There's a trick for replacing them easily, but lets find out if my guess is right first. I cant quite see what the O.P. thinks is wrong in the ejector cut, so we'll need to get some more info from him on that.

From what you have described with the spring being broken. It might also be holding the extractor claw down and not letting it move up and into the extractor cut Shamu.

To me nothing is wrong when I slide the bolt the action is fine, but I feel like I damaged the receiver I know the second picture is not the best. To me it looks like it the receiver got chipped.

For that second picture to me it looks like the receiver got chipped unless that's how its supposed to look. If needed I can provide a better picture of it.

I see it now, I do think the extractor spring is broken. A very easy fix. The rifle falling from standing up on the butt to the floor would not have done that. The spring will eventually fatigue and break.

That chip in the wood has been there and I have taken it to a gunsmith twice. He said the biggest issue was the bolt head which I got replaced. He did not mention anything about the receiver. To me it looks like the receiver got chipped.

Give me a day. I'll take basically the same pictures you did, but of my rifle, then you can compare. There is supposed to be a cut out there & it should go into both the breech of the barrel an the receiver's face. It might look messy, but it may be normal. The chipped wood is no problem. It think it's just replacing a $3.oo spring, but let me get some pics to you. I'd order the spring, fixing bolt, & claw, just to be safe. That way you wont get shafted on the shipping. They are getting hard to find so for $15.oo , or so, total for all 3 its probably a good idea just for safety's sake! ![]() Apologies for the rubbish pic, but its copied & cut from a
picture taken for a completely unrelated purpose so its a bit fuzzy.

OK, pictures, as promised. Look at the extractor claw & the little dimpled spring almost completely buried inside the bolt head. That's how it should be. My guess is the thing snapped at the usual weak spot the "U" hidden inside the channel on the bolt head & slid forward as you moved the action. I'd bet if you grabbed the tip with needle-nose pliers the half will simply slide out. Either that or the spring is installed flipped over? (The long leg should be nearest to the claw & the short one with the "catch detent") to keep it in place held against the cross bolt by spring tension. I took the pic from a couple of different angles to show it as best I could. |

Noe look at the breech face & extractor cut. you can see the "ring inside a ring" where the barrel's standing breech is screwed into the front of the receiver ring. It also shows the "staggered appearance" of the cut through the 2 pieces. And all the crud that normally hides in there too. If you compare it to yours I think its normal. What I think you're feeling is the displaced part of the spring scraping on the insides of the cut. |
