Hi all,
I'm new here. I recently purchased an Enfield. I'm not a collector but love old military guns. And the price was right. I think. I don't know much about them. Numbers on the action 4MK1 ROF (F) 11/45. Assuming 11/45 is the manufacture date. There is a # on the metal band attached to the trigger guard. JB28437. I'm assuming someone here knows what all this means. It came with a baronet. The sling is not original as I assumed it wouldn't be. The peep site is broken. not the long range part. Would need to perches another. Any feedback would be welcome. I would be interested in what ever else came with the issue. Thanks in advance. Bob Caron

yes , you assumption on the mfg date is correct , late war production ,
the marking - depending on its location exactly might indicate after service issue as military aid to another country but without photos and a bit more detail on the other markings i cannot help much

ROF (F) is "Royal Ordinance Factory, Fazakerly", a suburb of Liverpool. The No4 Mk1 was the upgrade/replacement for the SMLE of WW1 fame. The "ring" you describe is actually a part of the receiver, known as the Butt-socket" ![]() Rear-sights aren't horribly expensive, or difficult to replace. I suggest getting the "singer" micrometer sight (2nd from left) if you don't already have one. 2 tricks for when you do. 1: The little pin "Rear sight pivot pin cross pin(#26)" MUST be driven out from below, it is tapered. 2: The "screw", "Rear sight pivot pin" (#27) is not threaded you don't unscrew it! just push it out with a little pressure down on the rear sight which is spring-loaded. The slot in the head is to line up the hole to push the "Rear sight pivot pin cross pin" back in again if it doesn't get all beat up removing it. If it gets mangled you can replace it with a cut off finishing nail which is a good fit. ![]() |

Thanks for answering this Shamu, he had me stumped with the "metal band attached to the trigger guard".
The Mk 1 type rear sights are usually available, or a reproduction thereof. And would be correct for a post-war No. 4 Mk 1.

No problem. its actually easier to do than describe. There is a size limit to the files. I usually resize to 1028 for the long dimension.

Bob Caron.
I have a completely refurbished Mk1 sight for the No4Mk1 or No4Mk2. The asking price of $75.00 USD includes shipping costs. PM me if interested...

The "singer" is interchangeable with the stamped sight you have. All you do is leave the spacer out when reassembling with the cast singer, the sight base is wider & its not needed.
