On Sunday, we, as a family, competed in a competition for .22LR rifles using the 100m Bench Rest target at 50 metres.
The classsification for the rifles is: Less than 5kg weight. Scope up to x24. Trigger weight is free. Bi-pod or Sand bag front rest, no rear rest. The competition is shot in two rounds. Each round has 5 targets for 4 shots on each, plus 1 target for testing with no limit of test rounds. But a total of 20 minutes for completing the testing and the five targets for match in each round. However, we decided to shoot the competition with Lee Enfields. The no8 fitted with a x6 Scmitt Bender scope for my wife and my daughter and I took the 1918 SMLE .22 with the AG Parker dioptre! We like a challenge! Especially since we haven't practiced, although I did cehck both rifles for adjustment for the Eley Edge ammo'. My daughter had a great day, this being her first ever competition (and the only junior competing). She scored 191/200 in round one and 193/200 in round two. Earning her 11th overall (2nd Female) of 27 participants. My wife scored 184/200 and 187/200. For 16th overall. I was 24th, with a 170/200 and 168/200. Being the only one shooting without a scope, it's not surprising. But I wasn't last and I'll take that as a positive, shooting a 107 year old rifle without a scope! It certainly caused a bit of interest! I am very proud of both wife and daughter, because they haven't shot this No8 for at least 6 months.

That’s a fantastic result Shaun! And to do this as a family is icing on the cake. Very well done, you can be justifiably proud of your daughter to placing so high against much more experienced shooters with better rifles-scopes too!

I nice family day out. Congratulations. The results don't matter. At least, that's what I say when the wife and kids beat me.

Next Saturday we have a training session for our Service Pistol competitions.
Our club has recently started these practice sessions in readiness for next year's championship. My daughter is allowed to train with us, but she can't compete with the handguns until she's 18. But she will compete I the .22 Trainer rifle class next year.
