We need a members map on the forum. A lil google map that keeps a pin where each member is located. would be kind of cool.

Really????? Some have refused to fill in profile details claiming they want to remain anonimous and would resign from the forum if they were forced to fill in the details so I hardly think they'll have their names pinned on a map! It's a good idea though make it mandatory and let em resign!

Lets look at this a minute hypothetically. For instance there is a gentlemen that has a sizable firearm collection. He is a proud so he shows pictures and braggs on his collection. So then he is required to disclose his location and real name here on the forum. Some thief gets his name and location from here does a google search waits till he is not there and cleans him out of his collection. I can see where some one may not want his private information known. Now if a person chooses to want to disclose the location of his residence and his name, then he decides to assume the risk and the liability to his own personal belongings. So where would someone draw the line? What is considered safe for the forum would be potentially putting someone’s person possessions and family at risk. |

We have a similar situation on another site we frequent. Another member brought up the same concerns that Cookie Monster listed here. That forum makes the use of maps optional. I have no fear of having a map on my profile, but would more carefully moniter pictures I would be willing to post on a site with a map. If this site offered the use of a map as an option, I would have to think long and hard about using it. I would not quit the forum, but I may not be willing to be quite so open about the guns I own. As most people on the forum use a psuedonim thats a pointless argument. Nobody is suggesting a full name and address posted on the site. IF you read the profiles you'll see those who fill it in just add a general location. As Hoadie has pointed out on many occasions gun laws in the USA vary from state to state and anybody wanting to purchase a weapon on line from another member has to use a licensed dealer to cover "import/ export " to another state. As for my opinion I know you are aware of my reasons CM after the near miss earlier this year concerning a "respected/fraud" whos precipitate departure shocked those of us "in the know".

tony,
the fear of selling a gun on he internet isn't an ssue. If you have ever seen a google map using the pinpoint location, it can be very precise. The map that is on the other site I mentioned is so accurate, it shows the exact location of the house I live in. Being ripped off while not at home is the greater fear. Or being ripped off while being at home is even a greater fear. Unlike us, There are a lot of nuts in this world.

Yep clever NUTS who can hack into any system get any info they want including your asp and track you from that! NO WIN SITUATION either way so why all the secrecy? Do we know for certain the site hasn't been hacked?? NO we don't they're clever enough to cover their tracks if they can hack bank details and military sites anything is possible! No matter how secure you make your home somebody could turn it over. THATS why here in the UK we have to have gun cabinets made to an approved standard and bolted to the main wall of the house .Ok they could still cut the cabinet open but make a hell of a row doing it. Anybody wants to try it their welcome. I'll scrape the bits up after!!! Same with cars no matter how secure you try to make them somebody will know how to knock it off if they want it that badly. IF you look at the profile page all you need to fill in is country of origin, surnames are optional.

i just think it would be alot easier to bring members closer to the forums. if you can see that with in a 4 hours there are 4 or 7 members that own enfields, it would make those get togethers so much easier. Just a thought

A map by state would not be a bad Idea. Tony has a point a state by state and a country data base should be safe enough. Then if members want to contact one another they can use the PM option. As a general rule I do not post any personal information on the internet. |

Actualy Guys ... IF a thief is going to break in and steal your Rifles and Pistols ... It does no good for them when it comes to selling them ...You Guys and I will most likely not take sale if We dont know the person or have a feeling that some thing just is not right .. so the most valued would be your pistols .. they can be sold illeagally on the street to them Punks called gang bangers and dope dealers .....
If You do make a sale or purchess from some one ..Get a copy of their drivers license and Make you out a purchess agreemant between the 2 of you .... with D.L. No# and SS No#......... just in case .
Then at least You will have some thing in hand if the weapon turns out to be stolen .....
Also keep a Log Book of all Your Sr#'s from your weapons .. separate of You Guns . and preferably in a fire proof box ... that way if they are stolen You can supply the Police with the SR# No's and have a greater chance of getting your weapons back ...
If yall need a form to Log your weapoms on I can send You a couple .. Just PM Me and I will give you My address so You can send Me a self addressed envalope so i can send them to ya ...
Since I am an FFL dealer I have stacks of them.... I usually give them out with a purchess ...

Thanks WR, How about e.mailing a copy as an attachment, cheaper than posting!! As for a map........If you don't want your EXACT location pinpointing don't give your EXACT location..............SIMPLES! |

i like a city/state idea. You can integrate google maps into the site im just not sure what kind of software the forums use so i cant attest to how easy it would be.
