Now there are two versions of the famous Crow shot! This is the
senerio Open sighted #1 MkIIIs Three shooters facing a
parsture that was about 2mile long & has been harvested &
there is only ground cover left . There is some Crows right in the
distance & a argument breaks out between 2 of the three shooters
about How far said Crows are away !My opinon 1000yrds,the other shooter
(Gordan ) their only 800! It is decided that Mracel the third shooter
can be the judge & wittness whos the closest ! The sights (iron)
are set & we both fire with in seconds of each other!
Now Gordans version of the event ........The greatest shot I have ever wittnessed ! Dave shot a couple of seconds after me with a SMLE sights set at a 1000 & hits a crow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Standing unsupported !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Straight into the shoulder & fires & hits a Crow at a 1000yrds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never seen a shot like it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now my version ........Gordan fires first & we see the puff of dust from his shot ! I've fired after him & my shot lands somewhere near a mob of about 300 Crows from a plane they would of looked like a massive bullseye they must have been 100yrds wide but I've disturbed them though ! We walk down the said paddock & there all by itself is a very dead Crow with a large exit wound !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marcel (the judge) says that I win on shere fluke & points out (quite rightly ) that we'd better get back to work Gordan on the other hand starts to congradulate me on the greatest shot his ever seen & to this day still tells people of my 1000yrd crow (omitting the part about there being hundreds of them ) Dave |

hmmm i thought, said dave, that you could only shoot a crow with a shotgun... hmmm? am i wrong? i dont really know the answer to that but i am sure you can only shoot birds with shotguns, if they are in the air...

When their sitting on the Ground like these ones were you can shoot em
with a rifle But on the wing (flying ) a Shot gun is the prefered tool
for the Job!

me and my mates when going out west always take our home made crow decoys (crow shapes cut out of 3mm MDF and painted black) and the ol scotch(no dave... the brand!) crow call. make yourself a hide out of fallen tree branches(make a teepee) with leaves. and knock over some "reds "and lay em out front of the hide and sit the decoys on top of the carcasses and around the field.in real life there is always a scout that sits near or on the roo while the others feed. so make sure you have a decoy on the roo! make it as realistic as possible. in the years and trial and error we found settin up the hide on a tree line that faces a vast bare paddock with another tree line opposite us works the best. they will fly from behind and in front of you! get into the hide before sun up(<-VERY IMPORTANT) and at the first light start callin with ya crow call in 1 minute intervalls. once they show up DONT STOP CALLING! MORE WILL COME ...watch em fly over and then start blastin em outa the sky. no 4 shot is the best..probably go to a no 7 shot if you wish. my mate matt and i have brought down 67 crows in one morning this way. WE EVEN HAD ONE LAND ON THE HIDE...NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WERE PICKIN FEATHERS OUT OF OUR COFFEE! whats that i hear you say? the noise of 2 shotguns will make them stay away from the killing field. rule of thumb with crows..IF THEY DONT SEE YA, THEY WILL KEEPA COMIN! lambs to the slaughter...mmhaw haw haw haw. ENJOY! Edited by allan - April 30 2006 at 11:26pm |

A most evil laugh there Al !!!!!!!!
The best way to get crows to commit suicide is to find a stuffed Owl ! And peg it out were the black eye pickin swines can see it ! the reason a crow is black is this is it's natural camoflarge against it's nartural preditor ......The OWL & they will go beserk trying to kill one ! You don't even have to worry about a blind ! They ignoe the fact that your depleteing their numbers all they want is to kill the owl !!! dave |

If you really want some fun get some carbide! The stuff they used to use in miners lamps. Wrap some bread round the carbide and leave it where the crows can get at it. They swallow the bread/carbide and it starts to give off vast amounts of hydrogen gas very quickly. They cant puke it up and it builds up in the stomach cavity! Ever seen a crow/seagull explode in midair?
Very spectacular.

I was @ my cabin last summer.(Just got back from it now, too) My partner in crime - Joe - brought his young lad up (He like to go when Uncle Hoadie is there - cause he gets to shoot) Anyway, we was drinkin a couple brown pops, & a couple crows flew over (Noisy buggers).I mentioned that if you wanna see alot of crows, get a owl decoy, & put it on the T.V tower.(He didn't believe me)
So = you can see the scenario.I'm half in the bag, climbin up this stupid tower, carrying a fake owl.I hadn't even got it mounted yet & Joe's yellin that he sees a crow ! Then his son is yellin he sees more ! I'm on my way down the tower & everybodys yellin..Crows are comin from EVERYWHERE! I'm headin for the door thinkin I'm gonna run into Alred Hitchcock!!(The Birds ? You know ?) I get in the back room to grab the shotgun, & I'm tryin to load 7 1/2's into it..movin too fast..half in the bag...So I says look - lets just wait till dark & we'll take it down, & they'll be gone. But just then, 1 of 'em hit the window. Thats IT! I went outside just a blazin !! (I coulda used twin Orlikons there !) Anyways - I'm shootin - birds are makin a racket...I'm screamin...Joe's yellin...I had to duck into the door to reload! Then it happened...I stepped on an empty beer bottle & fell, dischargin said 12 Ga in the process, & blowin the owl all to hell !!(I mean - what are the chances of that ?! Hitting a mate, or the window/cabin or even my car...but the OWL ??!!) I picked up the birds & threw 'em in the outhouse.(the lower level). Joe made me promise I wouldn't buy another owl when I went to town, next day. Hoadie |

Mate I was born & raised & still live on a small sheep station! I come from a long line of Crow haters ! Over generations my Family have become experts at removing Crows from the Planet ! Another alturnitive to Carbide is just to leave Alkasler tablits out wraped in some meat ! Same thing ! Blows em to peices !!!! Another (don't try this at home kiddies ) methord that gives moments of entertainment (until your Mother catches you) is to trap a Crow & stick a Blasting Det up it's arse about half sticking out with a lenght of fuse !!!! Light fuse release crow sit back & wait !!!!! Learning curve? Don't do it close to the house !!! ![]() Dave |
