Very nice looking rifle.  Is it a Henry made barrel chambered in .45-70?  Didn’t know there was one.

very nice , all my martinis were still brit cartridge , that is untill i got the one that has been converted from original military to 22 cal then converted again to 12ga trap gun , it started life in 1888 , probably has a lot of stories if it could talk , wish it could as there are no records of its life i could ever find ,

C and Rsenal has recently done a comprehensive compilation series on the history and development of the Martini Henry.
The Turkish Empire at the time attempted to procure the Martini Henry from Enfield, who was too busy at the time providing for their own.
Consequently they entertained this contract to a number of bidders including Providence Tool who produced mine with Turkish inspectors on site.

Rather than misquote this narrative I encourage you to watch Othias and Mae to hear the tale which involves among other things Oliver Winchester originally winning this contract and deferring it to Providence Tool
During the course of this contract it involved both late payment by the Ottoman’s as well as shipwreck in delivery …
Although payment was eventually made and the contract filled, the overextension, and eventual dissolution by Providence Tool involved some domestic sales to the Connecticut Militia, among others and Japan to keep afloat.
Mine has full Turkish inspector marks but as factory chambered for 45-70 must have been one of these domestic sales and is in mint condition
The anstounding accuracy is due largely in part to this condition as well as swapping the Ross rifle sight traded to Geoff without alteration - Thanks again sir!

Great rifle and historical narrative.
A MH thats in great shape in 45-70 to boot. I didn't know such a chambering existed in that rifle.
Im resigned to tinkering in my workshop with forlorn SMLE and No 4 barrels creating fantasy rifles in 303 just for kicks and to have a project.
