Okay, I know the Vickers Pattern '07 bayonets are rather rare. So, that said, is a Vickers with scabbard dated April 1918 or dated July 1918 in good condition worth the $280 and $300 asking price, respectively? I would love to add one to the collection, but I am hesitant. It is a lot of money for a blade and I would love to hear some thoughts.
Oh, and the July 1918 Vickers is also Canadian marked on the pommel. Thought I should add that.

WWI Canadian marked Vickers 1907 bayonet with the scabbard? Yes, $300 is right in the ball park, the lower end actually. Here in Canada, anyway..
Exceptional find! If known, there would be lots of collectors chasing after that one! |

Glad I could help solve a mystery there, hoadie
englishman, I was thinking the prices were not too far off, I guess I just wanted a bit of reassurance on it.

dittos what simon said with the markings , i know there are lots of blades to be had cheaper but the correctly marked one you want does not show up all that often , those of us that buy to associate and reside with a specific rifle but a finite number of these so even if we pay a little high on one and find another at bargain or luck into one it averages out to a reasonable investment , we generally hold them dear and seldom worry of recovering the amount ,

Ayup Chaps...
I've posted these some time ago, but now as a tease... my collection of Vickers. At that time, I placed '4-18' in the centre, so it got photographed twice. I've acquired a couple more examples since then. Over the decades that I have been collecting '07's, these are the manufacture dates of Vickers examples encountered ( inclusive of my own collection )… 1917: 6 / 8 / 9 / 10 / 12. 1918: 2 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 11 / 12. 'Bear43', in connection to your question on value. For purchase price, the highest price paid for those shown was £90. The highest price paid for my latest example was £120. I have however noticed several Vickers examples with a sale price of between £220 / £280. |

vikers was late to the party on the P07s did not get into production till 1917 while the big producers were well on their way by 1911 ,
but they were on the spot to start the P14 rifle and P13 bayo , the P13 bayo is the same as the P07 with a different height muzzle ring , that is why the two cuts were added to the scales , they fell short though with a lot of problems so remingto and winchester got the bayos as well as the rifles with eddystone also contracted on the rifles , |

I'm not at all surprised that Vickers fell short of what was required of them. The production and delivery of their '07's was rather sporadic. Their factory was fully geared up for Machineguns... Of which I have an example ( deactivated unfortunately ) made at their factory in 1918. I worked there for a number of years ( original buildings ), and to learn the history of the factory was fascinating. It's now a distribution centre for a well known national D.I.Y company. From what I know of their P13 trials bayonet, only about 1,500 were actually produced. That and the Enfield example have long been on the tip of my 'WISH' list. |

Agreed. It really is a nice piece of history. It strips and dry fires. Not a useless welded up vandalised lump of metal like the new EU-Spec rubbish. |
