Dont know of this the right place to post this but, I recently picked up a mkiii* with the intent to unsporterize it. It hasn't been altered other than the furniture. I did some research for on the rifle from a ww1 collectors guide and figure out most of the proof marks. But half of them still allude me, I believe they are Indian proofs so (there is a rif broad arrow). I was also wondering if it was possible to figure out a month of manufacture by the serial number?
Enfield manufacture 1918 SN: D-3388 The red dots are proof marks I already identified Thanks for any help |

Interesting it’s a RSAF 1918 made receiver but does have the India 🇮🇳 G.R.I ownership on the receiver,no other RSAF inspection Veiw marks I can see.
RIF= Royal Ishaporez Factory FR 28 mark. Verifying mth of yr can’t help there. Cheer’s.

Thanks! My thoughts is that it was produced for the war and maybe made it out a month or two be for the armistice. Then was sent out to the colony in India in 1928 judging by the date under RIF. I hoping she saw one of the two world wars, always nice to have piece of history. Still a decent chance it may have seen the Bruma campaign, I would assume. Pretty nice rifle regardless, she's in great shape

The 1928 date is simply when it was repaired at the Ishapore factory. No telling about it's travels overall though.

Ohhh. I was reading the proofs wrong, the reference I was using has different flag shapes for the proofs. I was looking at the square flags and assuming it was the british not Indian due to that, without even looking that it was gri and not gr.

For the lack of barrel date & other English inspection view marks etc etc,my thought is it was put put together at RIF in 1928 not so much as a FR job.
Could of seen time in the India Boarder Confict’s etc. The D prefix & 4 digit S/N would seem to indicate it was S/N’d at Ishapore factory not RSAF.Emphasize on the lack of E inspection view mark’s. Cheer’s.
