I think the thing that bothers me most in those pictures, and any pictures of vetrans for that matter, is their eyes. The things they've must have seen. Some of the above pictures of GI's, they look about 60 years old and I bet most were still in their early 20's.

Well it's been a while since I posted anything here; but finally got a few photos of the town today.

This is the "Rue de la Greve". The original shot shows the resistance fighters walking toward the far end of this street

This the Cafe St Roch.

and back in 1944

and the town hall today.

and in 1944, flying the french flag!

the town centre square today; shows some changes. The small buildings that were built on to the side of the Church have gone; that would be the "Marbrerie" in the 1944 photo below.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

The liberation of Bonneval was mid August. But this weekend (31st Aug) the town held a 75th Anniversary of the Liberation. An impressive military camp was installed in the sports field and a mass of WWII vehicles were touring the local countryside and on show at the camp. We were lucky that the collection of vehicles was far bigger than at Paris a couple of weeks ago.
Here's a few photos!
