I would guess it's a No1 Mk 3, but we'd need more pictures to be sure.

Its some variation of S.M.L.E. probably a No1 MkIII (no star). It was military, not civilian, but the royal cypher & other markings are to lacking in detail for much more info.
Probably an early one from the trigger guard sling swivel fitting.
Detailed pics of the markings on the butt socket & butt disc will let us get more detailed.
There is something odd about the magazine too. it seems to have a loop on the front face which is jamming up against the sling swivel mount.
Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)

Looks to me like a Magazine Lee Enfield (long rifle), with a butt from an SMLE fitted to it.

Rifle is not an SMLE; no charger loading facility visible.

Bolt and rear sight are the type used on some of the long rifles.

Anyone have any insight on this one. Erskine was a Captian during the Ethiopian Italian war, Ras means leader but I have not been able to find out much on Mulu Cheta.

Any idea what the value might be with and without the Captian Erskine prominence?

It is a sporterized Enfield rifle and not in its original form. Its value is solely based upon your asking price andwhat someone is willing to pay for it. We all here can give you our opinions on what a rifle of similar designed sold for but that's about it. If you are looking to get rid of it,drive down to Cooksville and stop in at Tervens Trucking. Hand the rifle to Tim and I'll pick it up from my cousin within the next few weeks.Thumbs Up
