Yuma. To be totally honest, I'm a huge fan of the Mannlicher full wood stock. If I saw that sporterized for sale, I would snap it up. (Is it for sale?)

you know - i try to be as tollerant as i can be here , i am a bit oppinionated and although my poilitical views are right of most , i believe i can seemingly find some common ground in firearms most of the time ,
i do not like the international stock or the thumbhole on sported enfield rifles only because there are so many well done sported rifles of other persuasions that look so much better , we have the enfield versions that have their own great look , most do not need improving on , but alas that is my thinking , ill stuff it at this point , i have seen a lot of nicely sported enfields here and elsewhere and said so , i give credit when due , im not inclined on these sorry , just me liking them as made

A Square,I can see your opinion without a problem, whereas on the other hand, I like Mannlicher stocked rifles......if done properly.....most look very clubbish, especially on an Enfield and the pistol grips are usually too large and look out of place. This particular one struck me as well proportioned, especially with the original style grip.
Sorry Honkytonk, I know nothing about this rifle other than I found it while surfing the net. I'm assuming this is the thread to put sporterised or modified rifles ?? I totally agree with your dislike of thumbhole stocks, other than a target rifle, I think they are ugly and would be very awkward to use in the field. Obviously these are my personal opinions and well.....to each their own. Roger |

That is not my Thumbhole. That belongs to someone else who made it as a tribute to the one seen in Crocodile Dundee II...

I'm Australian, and I loved the movie but I thought " no bloke in the 'territory would use a stock like that! "....my wife hates it when I pick movie rifles to bits.

Yuma, know problem. I saw a You Tube video of an American gentleman with a similar stock on his Enfield, although it appeared synthetic. I tried to find the source but couldn't. Maybe a custom? I really like sporters as they keep Enfields in the field hunting. I have several and must admit the one in your picture is very nice. I totally understand and respect members that are purists, and that's why, in my opinion, this is such a great forum.

The problem with the thumbhole above, (or hand -hole!) is that its clumsy and would be Very clumsy to use if fast use was required. Beats me on how folks can "Improve" things to the point of being useless....
Mind, I think I like it better than the clunky -looking rifle in the OP. |

Roger I like the overall look of it. That said I also like original rifles better but if it had to be changed at least it was done well and looks good to me. To each there own. I also like the look of a Vickers Machine Gun. Also have a Great (my thoughts) 17hmr rifle with a thumbhole multi colored plywood stock. Sometimes one has to make lemonade if one is given bruised lemons. Later 42rocker |
