Just joined.
Not usually into Forums or social media being an old fashioned sort of bloke.
My daily drive is a 1957 SWB Land Rover hard top.
I have cut my teeth on SMLE,s and No 4,s in School Cadets and earned a Marksmans badge.
I owned a British Enfield .38 in PNG but in time of need once I sold it.
The only Enfied I own now is a Martini .303.
I am having a few problems and one of our club members suggested I ask on a forum. so here I am.

Actually just remembered. I have this one hanging on the wall.

Well, you will get alot of help here..but you need to be a little more specific.

OK, I will keep it in this thread.
I have this Martini converted to .303 but I cant get it to group.
Most are about 8 to 10 inches high by 3 or 4 wide at 200 yards.
I would like at least half that.
It has a long thin forend and I was shooting prone with a sling. I thought the sling pressure might be pulling it off so shot without it. Not much difference.
Using our ADI powders 2206H, 2209, and 2213SC with the Sierra 174 grn match.
Varying weights and OAL. From in the rifling to a few thou off.

One thing I have not done is slug the bore. I have read there is some variation.

A process of experimentation. Bullet and powder.

Likely the rifle does not like the bullets. What were you using?

You could put it in Enfield rifles if you wanted to, we're kind of all inclusive catch all here. We have some Matini experts so they'll probably chip in soon.

This is just my opinion about your rifle grouping wide.
Question first however.
What does the last two inches of the rifling look like at the end of the barrel? Based off of your initial comment all I heard was, the rifling at the end of the barrel is wore so far down that it is allowing the bullets to fan out like buckshot. My grandfather's 1873 32/30 slabside Winchester did the same thing. The rifling at the end of the barrel was almost non-existent. Seeing how it had a 25 inch barrel,we started to shorten the barrel in one inch increments. At 23" the cutting stopped. The barrel was recrowned and a new blade front sight was installed. The groupings went from a six to eight inch spread down to a respectable 3-4 inch spread @100 yds. That rifle of yours looks rather well used, and I believe that you have a wore out barrel, especially at the muzzle. The age of the rifle plus unknown amounts of ammunition cycled through it,be it corrosive or non-corrosive typically yields a barrel with rifling that will no longer grasp the bullet as it passes through.I have seen this occurrence on multiple occasions in the past. Just my opinion though.

Vertical stringing can be a bedding issue. With a forend that old  there could be a warping issue.  You might see how much of the forend is making contact with the barrel.  The fix would be to relieve the barrel channel.
