Back from a pleasant day at the range.

I’ve been working on the 1914 BSA ShtLE with the .22 Morris tube & BSA No9W folding dioptric sight. I think I’ve got it figured.

Barrel tension was a critical factor & I’ve been making tiny adjustments to try “tuning” it. The No9W sight is very accurate but my eyes can’t do the peep aperture any more without a little help. Enter the Gehmann dioptric sight with aperture & eyesight adjustment.

It was the missing piece of the puzzle.

This is my target from today, shot at 25 yds, not 50, off a bench using just a sling.

2 sighting 10 “for score”

I scored it

#0: doesn’t count. 2 sighters. Then "round the houses" twice, one round on each numbered target, then repeat. Slow fire.

#2: 9, 10(x)

#3: 2X9

#4: 9, 10(x)

#5: 10(x), 10(x)

I score that as a 91 (4x)

Not bad for a 111 year old rifle with a 105 year old iron sight, with 75year old un-calibrated Mk1 eyeballs. Oh & Remington Thunderbolt "rubbish" ammo!

 Tongue

I also discovered 2 other things.

I'm now left eye dominant due to deteriorating vision in my right eye.

My scope WILL work with the 45° eyepiece canted at 45° to the right, so I can shoot right eyed, using the corrections of the sights, & then just lean left & use the scope with the left eye!

Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)
