These aren't the usual, "look for buggered screws" guides, but specific things to look for (or avoid) when buying these specific rifles. This may save you from buying a possible turkey, or identifying a real gem. No4, all marks, buying guide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huh7kEKS3xY

That’s a pretty good overall review on the No. 4.
I don’t entirely agree with his comments on headspace, particularly as it pertains to reloading. I get much longer case life if headspace is held to the minimum, even when neck sizing only. It’s not that difficult to replace the bold heads. I do agree with him in that I would not reject a rifle because headspace is on the upper limits providing it had a #0 or #1 bolt head, as this can be easily corrected. |

I did like the way you check the bedding on a No4 rifle.
Have to try it when I go to my next show in November 16-17 in Raleigh.

Good plan, Paddy! In the past, while contemplating purchasing a gun show find, I have taken with me head space gauges and a trigger pull gauge to check the 'up pressure' on the barrel/stock. It helped a lot!
