At the weekend my wife and I completed in our Departmental (county)
Service Rifle competition. This is for qualification to the Regional finals.
My wife shot the standard bolt action class with the No4 Mk1/2.
I shot standard (No4mk1) and modified using the 1929 No1MkIII*.
We both qualified. I was 8th and the missus 13th in the standard class of 31 shooters. However we both lost points in the "rapid" round.
However I got it together for the modified and had a personal best of 165/200. Which got me 3rd place. One point off second.
The 10 circle is 8 cm diameter on these targets.
So a good day out for both of us, with some improvement needed for the Regional finals.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Congrats Shaun, that's an excellent score on those small targets!

Shaun, do you know what the record scores have been on these targets in the past?

I can't imagine anyone being able to shoot a "clean" score of 200ex200 on a 1.5 MOA 10 ring.  Not only does the group size need to be at or under 1.5 MOA, but it would have to be perfectly centered on the target.  My guess is the best shots might manage 15 of the 20 shots finding the 10 ring, but 20 consecutive shots within a 1.5 MOA bull with a Lee Enfield with aperture sights?  That would be a feat of precision shooting for sure with some luck added in.

Thanks guy's!
Regarding the winning scores, the last few years have been around 170 to 185 out of 200 for the regional and 185 to 190 for the National final.
Curiously the standard bolt action class are often as high as the modified.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!
