I found tbis a while back and couldn't pass it up. I am unfamiliar with items prior to the P1907 = No1 MkIII, so Income for your help.

This is in beautiful shape but has been cut down for a fighting knife, I presume. Is this common or was there another reason this may have been officially shortened?

It does not have a scabbard sadly, but I am on the hunt for one.

Any information you could provide me on this example would be truly appreciated!

Photos below.

Thank you!

its definitely an 88 as it started life , cant say wou cut it and added the drop point but i suspect it was not in primary service , may well have been done in a secondary service as foreign aid or even after that , i think the commonwealth would frown on doing that in service , might have been dropped to the resistance behind the lines ?

i see your interest and i might well have snatched it as well , but its collector value is gone ,

Thank you for the education. I'll keep it with my Krag bayonets converted to fighting knives. It is becoming my "thing!"

I’d say any WW2-era ersatz leather sheath would be appropriate, they were surplus by that time & I suspect that’s when it was done.  No idea who did it.
