The Enfield-Rifles.com says it all. I like Mauser rifles but this is an Enfield forum. Thanks for listening, John

I believe that discussion of other makes of military rifles should be allowed here so long as it is kept brief and for the purpose of reccomending other more appropriate boards for discussion of said rifle. For example: If someone stumbles onto this site while searching for a Springfield board. I think that the person should be allowed to ask for a reccomendation to another board. However with that siad I feel that long discussion of rifles other then Enfields should be prohibited.

Yeah you've got me there ! But I wonder what would of happened if WW1 had'nt broken out when it did ? As the British were manufacturing the Pat14 as a .275 (7mm) in 1913 to replace the Mk1 #3 Enfield ,but with the out break of hostilities they were converted to .303 . Then in WW2 many of the British Gumn Makers ,such as Purdey were put to work accurizing selected Pat14's as sniper rifles ! A good Mate of mine owns one that is Marked Purdey & sons (& always boasts that he owns a Purdey to lord it over us mere mortals ) |

Actually the Pat14 and M1917 are as true an Enfield as any. They were, after all, designed at RSAF Enfield. Why should we limit discussion on them just because they aren’t a Lee designed Enfield? |

First off bear in mind that this is just my oppinion. That said the 14 and 17 Enfields although designed by the same country they are a different series of rifles. Talking about them here would be sort of like talking about an M14 on a M1 message board. Edited by shotgunminister - February 10 2006 at 11:14pm |

And a very valid opinion it is. However many boards have areas to discus “off brands”. What this dose is allow people who have more than one interest to come to one place and find something of interest. Use as an example the M-14 forum “The Firing Line”( http://www.m-14forum.com/ ) they have a section to discuss everything from the original M14 to Lever actions. Don’t get me wrong here. My interest is Lee Enfields. Patt.14 and M1917 are only a side line. Nor am I suggesting that an anything goes attitude is the answer ether. Perhaps a breaking down of the different types of Enfield rifles is in order. Perhaps something like: Mk.I Long Lee and Carbines SMLE’s Patt.14 & M1917”s No.4 and variation Enfield Pistols I see that this thread is now several months old. I’m sure that the Admin. Has already made it’s decision as to what direction they want to take this forum. You won’t get any argument from me. Anything Enfield is OK with me. I’m just happy to find a group of people that share my affliction!
