The rollmark on my Enfield identifies it as a #4 MKI.  Right above that, there's what looks like separate engraving that reads "#4 MKI ROF (F) FTR".  What does all that mean?

It means it is a No4 Mk1 that had a  Factory Thorough Repair - FTR - at the Royal Arms Factory  Fazerkaley - ROF (F)

but not an "upgrade" if marked mkI in both locations ,

an 'upgrade' would have made it a mk2 marked as mkI/2

thats not necessarily a bad thing BTW , just means its factory new in the original configuration ,

the upgrade would have hung the trigger from the reciever , some think a better shooting configuration , but i feel strongly that the historic nature of these original configurations are equally important , so id be more intrigued with this ,
