My understanding is that the PH5E4 was used on the Enforcer.
PH5E was for the Mauser action PH5E4 was for the No4 action You just removed the mounting plate and installed the one you wanted to fit your application.

Thanks, just curious.
My 7.62 DCRA conversions have a PH 5C installed, but I think that was all there was at the time they were built up. Works just fine. One has the 1/2 MOA click knobs and the other has the 1/4 MOA knobs.

Years back I had two L39A1s that had AJ Parker TZ4/47 and 4/80 target sights that were marked 7.62mm by the elevation scale. I bought the sights along with Match Maker front globes.

When RSAF at Enfield Lock (Royal Small Arms Factory) supplied the Enforcer to county and metropolitan police forces it did so as a complete package. The sights (both iron & optical) were purchased from Parker-Hale and fitted at Enfield. I think they even supplied a case!
Not so for the L39 though; this was a "tri" service target rifle and individual units (Navy, Army and RAF) had to buy there own sights, the vast majority of sights seen on L39's are AJ Parkers 4/47. I have seen rifles coming out of Donnington with "Matchmaker" foresight tubes on so it's possible RSAF purchased and fitted these? For whatever reason AJ Parker had the market for the armed services; this could well be down to the slightly better personal service Edna Parker and her father offered the services whereby Parker-Hale had more of a global market and didn't (or couldn't) offer such a "tailored" service. One simple trick to see whether a sight is .303 or 7.62mm is to look at the the range scale, .303 goes to 1200 whereas 7.62mm goes to a 1000 (generally). Not that it makes any difference as MoA is MoA regardless of calibre! |

True, except the PH 5C rear sight on the No. 4 does not actually give 1 MOA per 2 (or 4) clicks, and the scale is not true MOA. More like 1.2 MOA per 2 (or 4) clicks. Did this get corrected for the PH 5E sight, or this they retain the same thread pitch?

Geoff interesting point! I wasn't aware of this because at one point I had five 4/47's on various rifles and have never owned a P-H 5c. It does make me wonder if this is the reason the ARA (Army Rifle Association) only had 4/47's on their No.4 conversions and later L39's? I was told many years ago that the P-H 5a suffered from this problem but assumed it was fixed when they produced the 5c.
