Thank you for the welcome. Very first post here, so here goes.
My real name is Mark, I served as a Plane Captain "aka "Crew Chief" for F-14A Tomcats when I was in the US Navy, so hench the screen name "TomcatPC".

I guess my interest for the Lee Enfield rifle started in 2000 when I bought a $100 sporterized Savage "Lend Lease" No.4 Mk.1* from Turpin Guns in Anchorage, Alaska. I moved to Alaska a few years following my four years in the Service. It seemed like a good idea to have a rifle with a bit more guts than the 1950's single shot Stevens .22. Being 3rd. generation English-American, the Lee Enfield seemed to be the natural choice, I was not disapointed to say the least.

My $100 sporterized No.4 Mk.1* got restored to it's 1942 glory shortly there after. Fast forward to last Wen. when I brought home a 1940 (FTR'd date, looks like the date was restamped) BSA S.M.L.E. that will be restored as soon as the parts get here. Needless to say, I will have many questions to ask in the near future.
Cheers Mark

That is correct, no more Tomcats, I believe the last Tomcat flew back in Sept. 2006. I think 30 plus years is a good run for a fighter aircraft, but still sad to see them go.

Yeah well we are still operating the F-111's here... and they are 40 years old at least.

Im sure "uncle gus" (air chief marshal Angus Houston, chief of the Australian Defence Force) hooks up the box trailer to the RAAF Hi-lux and goes to the air craft bone yard out in the desert in the states and fills them full of F-111 parts "Pick'n 'payless" style. (Pick 'n 'payless is a place full of car wrecks where you pull spare parts off wrecked cars)

Thing is they are meant to be getting replaced by JSF's... so they will be 10-15 years away depending on when you lot in the states pull your finger out.
