Finally got some time to play in the reloading room. Hurricane tree removal is finally almost finished. (I hate hurricane’s).
Had some new PPU brass and 180sps I ordered quite a while back. So my new Lee dies have a load chart that says max 38 gr @ 2400 fps for H4895 what I have been using. And IMR 4895 was quite a bit heavier? I know that they are not exactly the same but they always are pretty close in burn rate. Based on my limited chrono data, 308/3006/45-70. So….? My newest load book doesn’t have a 180 gr load listed, stops at 174 gr bullet. So is there something different with the 303B and heavier bullets? I just started loading 303B and inherited a new jug of IMR 4895. Have both H and IMR now. Obtw I loaded up a few H4895 at 36 gr and they seem to group well, limited test so far out of my MkIII. Have not shot over chrono yet. |

Check the Hodgdon Reloading Data Center website; you will find load data for both H4895 and IMR4895 for 180 grain Sierra. These two powders are quite different and not interchangeable.
