If it works well on a hot load, sounds like you got a winner!  I always swab the barrel a couple of times, push a clean patch through and then look through the barrel for lead streaks. I hope it stays clean!

Hello Ed... My first post here!..... This is my recipe for rifle  bullet lube , I find it works very well in the 45-70 at least.

2 lbs Parowax (paraffin)  I will substitute with Beeswax when I get some
1 jar White Vaseline about 3/4 lb (12 ozs)
4 ozs of commercial furniture Trewax (which is Carnauba wax) Can substitute with Johnson's car paste wax
2 tbsp's STP engine conditioner

I melt this mix in a double boiler , safer and won't scorch the lube either... Then I use a shallow cake pan to pan lube the bullets.

This formula stays well on the bullets in all weather , and leaves the bore clean.

All the best!
Bob

Bare grease gets poisionous? keep it covered. (You meant bear grease?)LOL
Minie bullets were coated with a mixture of beeswax and tallow (cow fat). I tried beeswax and lard and got pretty good accuracy. I guess tallow melts at a higher temperature than lard?
