As so many major manufacturers are quoting numbers like this 2690 is high, even for a book maximum  IMO & you should approach anything above any book maximum with extreme caution & use lots of prudent working up if you don't want to invite catastrophic failure.

... High velocities, high pressures & sticking brass are all possible signs of impending disaster & you should always err on the side of caution when reloading, "fail safe" is a good reloaders motto!

I do agree with what is said there.  There is no need for max loads for target work and the same applies to hunting loads.

I now use a heavier bullet at more moderate velocity.  I did approach that load with caution and I'm pretty sure it was with the guidance of the load data supplied with the powder.

My current 'hot' load is way below the listed max and that's with a stronger No4.  I just don't see the need for hotter loads (although the loads found that show velocities of 2900 with 150gr bullets gets my interest from a long range point of view but long range without accuracy is kinda pointless!  Besides, no pressures are shown.  Anyway, such velocity from a Lee Enfield is crazy!Confused)

But if you want hot loads then try Mk VIII machine gun ammo!  I fired nearly fife hundred of those through that rifle, fortunately with no damage.  I forget the velocity but is was considerably higher and that with Cordite.  The military supplied it and it wasn't marked as for machine guns only and I didn't know there was such a thing.  It wasn't even marked as Mk VIII.

Some sources list the velocity of the MkVIIIz as well over 2500 FPS, I forget the exact numbers.
The Kynamco matchgrade .303 using the 175 gr SMK boat tail bullet is listed at well over 2500 FPS as well.
That load is packaged as a MkVII duplicate but bullet type and velocity say different.
Kynamco originally used surplus MkVII bullets bought from an Ordnance Factory and loaded to original specs using a blended powder charge to duplicate the pressure curve of cordite.
