Jim "SWAMPY" Borland made his lifelong living from bears. He was the 2nd biggest bear outfitter in the Highlands East. (He used to have a bigger operation-little closer to Quebec years ago). It was he, that told me that the BLACK bear is the most unpredictable of the species. He always said: you KNOW what a Griz will do-likewise a polar & Brown. But the black may run away from your house cat in panic...and an hour later take the door off your house/cabin & come inside & destroy everything/anyone it sees. With a black-you just DONT know.Sadly, Swampy passed away last winter. It was quite a loss up there.

Mighty interesting reading!  Keep it coming. Around my parts even the most dangerous wild beast - man - is not all that threatening, mostly.  Do you folks realise that every single murder or manslaughter in my country gets front page coverage?  TV news can go on about it for a week!  They all get caught too.  But I digress, it's the wild and the animals in it that is interesting.

You're right about that. I feel safer on a salmon stream in spawning season with bears all around than I feel in parts of the city with shady characters. I'm glad Alaska is open carry.

A week ago, my friend Jane (from Chicago) was visiting. She was puzzled by the Canadian response(particularly TORONTO'S) to firearm violence.Toronto is all bent out of shape, cuz they had 32(34?) firearm deaths last year. She says they have that on a typical NIGHT!Toronto is North America's 4th largest city(Its a DUMP-if you ask me! )Its TORONTO'S screaming, that results in all our STUPID firearm legislation in Canada For some stupid reason-Toronto figures they atre the center of the Canadian universe-& they shall dictate!

Eventually we may open a bear season here, though "incidents" are being less reported (though they are probably more frequent). Fortunately I have not had to shoot one yet.
The thief may possess something he stole, but he does not own it.
The owner has a right to take his property back from the thief.
