Could do a De Lisle build on it. Charger bridge would have to come off anyways, don't need the original magazine, or most of the furniture or even a good barrel.

I will have to disagree with you on that subject. I did the 45ACP conversion to a No4Mk1 and the receiver is left totally alone. The one and only reason that my receiver has the charging bridge removed was that I wanted a Parker Hale scope base and mount. That and I did not feel the need to put iron sights on the barrel...

Sorry Goosic - I should have specified - if he wants to do a replica De Lisle build rather than any pistol caliber build, the bridge would have to come off. Otherwise it dosen't matter one way or the other for a .45, 9mm or similar build.

Anything is repairable if you throw enough time and money at it. Even this one. But evaluate it first. A great deal depends on the condition of the bore. Clean it and see if it is shiny with rifling. If not, then it would likely cost more to fix than it would cost to go find another second hand one in good condition.
So unless an heirloom that has been in the family for generations, there would need to be some other good reason for attempting to repair. Your wallet, so your call. But not to worry, this one is nothing rare or special. Literally millions of this model of rifle were made. The safety catch group is missing, but that does not make the rifle inherently dangerous. I have early Lee rifles (Metfords) that by design were never fitted with a safety catch. The charged bridge does not prevent the action from spreading or 'stiffen' the action to any major degree, not in my opinion anyway, you can do without it. None of my original factory sporters (Lee Speeds) had the bridge. Some reputable gun makers (Parker Hale, Churchill, ---) did commercial conversions of the exact same model of military rifle. Many of these rifles refurbished for hunting had the bridge neatly removed to allow the fitting of a scope mount. This one has probably served in two world wars then was sold off surplus to a civilian owner where it soldiered on converted as a hunting rifle. This one appears to have seen a lot of use and sadly some neglect. Sometime one has to accept that a rifle has come to the end of its road and is now a source for spare parts. Any story here? Where did you find it? Who was the last owner? For what purpose was it used? |

We found it in a antique shop in southern WA paid $20 we thought it would look cool hanging on the wall,no history on it unfortunately, the bore is a bit rusty and looks like it has two grooves

Just realized you are fairly close by - if you want it looked over closely, let me know. Or if you want to get rid of it, I'll give you what you put into it and a bit, and anything usable off it will go into the spare parts bins.
